The geopolitical dynamism of East Asia over the next 20 years may be greatly affected by political, economic and social developments, particularly within and among the main player nations of Japan, the United States, China, Russia, South Korea and North Korea. How is Japan going to steer its foreign policy in this intriguing regional context? Mr. Masafumi Ishii, Ambassador for Policy Planning and International Security Policy in the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will set out his views on the future strategic situation in East Asia, citing seven trends and policy priorities for Japanese diplomacy in the light of the newly-inaugurated Japanese government’s foreign policy.
Contributors:

His overseas assignments include postings in both London and Washington. He took up his current post of Ambassador for Policy Planning and International Security Policy in January 2009.
