Kengo Kito completed his MA at Kyoto City University of Fine Arts and Music in 2003. He is renowned for large installations using common industrial materials, and these led to a major commission to work for 'PUBLIC ‘SPACE’ PROJECT' by the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo (MOT) in collaboration with Bloomberg Japan and to 'Roppongi Crossing ’07', a survey show on leading Japanese artists at Mori Art Museum, Tokyo. He was recently awarded the 'Gotoh Memorial Award' and short listed for the 'VOCA Award' for his paintings. Kito has become one of the leaders of a new generation of Japanese artists.
Kito currently lives and works in Berlin. The exhibition, 'Cosmic Surfing', showcases his recent creation of a series of new paintings using images from fashion magazines. The original meaning and context that reflect the superficial society are lost and transformed into sublime abstract movements on his canvas.
He has been exhibiting nationally and internationally in solo and group shows in Japan. Recent solo exhibitions include 'Sagittarius', at gallery αm, Tokyo in 2010, 'Flimsy Royal' at Humanities gallery, Long Island University Brooklyn, NY in 2009 and 'Cosmic Element', Singapore in 2008.
