Daiwa Scholars 2007 completed the programme in 2009.

For this year's intake, the Foundation selected ten Scholars, two women and eight men.

In total, they have studied at nine different universities and colleges: Bristol, Cambridge, Central St Martins, Hong Kong, LSE, Nottingham, Oxford, Queen's Belfast, and UCL.

Daiwa Scholars 2007 departed for Tokyo in September 2007.

The Scholars are:

SAMINA BHATIA
Samina completed a BA at Hertford College, University of Oxford in Politics, Philosophy and Economics. She previously spent one month in Japan on a cultural exchange programme at Kwansei Gakuin University. She is seeking to pursue a career in international development.

ALEX BURGUES
Alex completed a MEng degree in Mechanical Engineering with Study in Continental Europe (with Spanish) at the University of Bristol. His interest in Japan developed from his involvement with automotive engineering and he is seeking to develop a career in the automotive research and development sector.

ADRIAN CONNOLLY
Adrian completed a MEng degree in Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at Queen’s University Belfast. As part of his degree he worked in Japan with the engineering firm Chuden CTI. He is seeking to develop his career in engineering and to eventually set up his own technology firm.

DAN HARDS
Dan completed a BA in Fine Art at Central St Martin’s College of Art and Design. He previously visited Japan for two months and has developed links with artists there. He is seeking to pursue a career in fine art while lecturing and curating exhibitions in the UK and Japan.

JONATHAN HILL
Jonathan completed a BA in Politics and East European Studies from University College London and an MSc in Global Politics from the London School of Economics and Political Science. He has a strong interest in Japanese foreign and security policies, and has worked for policy development organisations in both the UK and Asia on political conflict and terrorism related issues.

DR CRISTY HO
Cristy has a BCogSc in Cognitive Science from the University of Hong Kong, an MSc in HCI and Ergonomics from University College London, and a PhD in Cognitive Psychology from the University of Oxford. She is seeking to conduct research in the research and development units of automobile companies in Japan.

ADAM HOLLIS
Adam was previously a Manufacturing Engineer at Rolls-Royce plc. He has a MEng degree in Manufacturing Engineering and Management from the University of Nottingham. He has professional links with Japanese companies and is seeking to further his career by working within an aerospace or a high technology company.

BARNABY JONES
Barnaby completed a BA at Corpus Christi College, University of Cambridge, in English. His interests in Japan include Japanese literature, history and politics. He is seeking to develop a career in the diplomatic service.

EDWARD KNIGHT
Edward completed a MChem degree in Chemistry at Worcester College, University of Oxford. He previously visited Japan as part of the two-week Oxford-Doshisha University sailing exchange. He is seeking to set up his own business after gaining experience in consultancy firms.

THOMAS RICHARDSON
Thomas completed a BA at Pembroke College, University of Cambridge, in History. Prior to taking up the Scholarship he visited Japan twice. His career ambition is to work in the marketing of European companies in Asia.
